Some Interesting Horseshoe Pitching History
Here's a little history from the 1980 World Invitational Horseshoe Pitching Tournament held at the Los Angeles County Fair. This tournament is what we now call the NHPA's World Tournament looked like back then. Click complete results for a complete 3-day tourney summary. But, we want to point out the last game of the finals held on the 3rd day between Ralph Simon and Walter Ray Williams (pictured below). Ralph is on the right with the red shirt and Walter is on the left with the white shirt. This game has been called "One of The Greatest Horseshoe Games Ever". This 50-point game had 176 shoes pitched and was won by Walter Ray Williams with 92.0% ringers while Ralph Simon had 88.6% ringers. It took two score sheets to record this outstanding game (pictured below the players' pictures).
